Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdelatty, met on Monday with Luxembourg’s Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel during his visit to Luxembourg for the Egypt-EU Association Council meeting.
During the meeting, Abdelatty praised the growing momentum in relations between Egypt and Luxembourg, citing the exchange of high-level visits in 2025 as a sign of stronger political and diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
The Egyptian foreign minister expressed Cairo’s desire to expand economic cooperation with Luxembourg and increase trade and joint investments, particularly in infrastructure, transport, clean energy and banking services.
He also reviewed the Egyptian government’s efforts to improve the investment climate and strengthen the role of the private sector in the national economy. Abdelatty said the creation of a joint economic committee and a joint business council would support trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting also addressed regional and international issues of common concern, foremost among them developments in the Gaza Strip.
Abdelatty praised Luxembourg’s position in support of the Palestinian cause, including its backing for a ceasefire, humanitarian access to Gaza, the two-state solution and the work of UNRWA.
He said it was important to implement the requirements of the first phase of US President Donald Trump’s plan and begin work on the second phase. He also called for enabling the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza to begin its duties from inside the Strip and for the rapid deployment of the International Stabilisation Force to support efforts to restore security and stability.
Abdelatty also briefed his Luxembourg counterpart on developments in Lebanon, Syria and Sudan, as well as the situation in the Horn of Africa and Somalia. He reviewed Egypt’s efforts to support regional security and stability, calling for greater regional and international cooperation to favour dialogue and diplomatic solutions to ongoing crises.
The Egyptian minister also welcomed the agreement reached between the United States and Iran.
For his part, Bettel said Luxembourg is keen to upgrade relations with Egypt across different fields and continue coordination on regional and international developments of common concern.
He also praised Egypt’s central role in supporting security and stability in the region.
