On the sidelines of the African Union Summit, Egypt and Liberia have signaled a new era of cooperation, focusing on economic growth, security, and diplomatic training.

Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Expatriates, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, met with his Liberian counterpart, Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti, on Sunday to discuss deepening the historical bond between the two nations. Egypt was among the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with Liberia in 1957.

Economic and Development Expansion

A key focus of the discussions was the expansion of trade and infrastructure. Dr. Abdelatty emphasized that Egyptian companies are ready to meet the needs of the Liberian market, particularly in the pharmaceutical and food sectors. Furthermore, Egypt expressed a strong interest in executing developmental projects within Liberia, specifically in infrastructure and renewable energy.

Security Cooperation and Counter-Terrorism

The ministers also addressed regional stability, with a focus on counter-terrorism efforts in the Sahel region. Egypt highlighted its ongoing initiatives through Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping, and Peacebuilding (CCCPA) to provide training and capacity-building for African cadres.

Diplomatic Training Agreement

The meeting concluded with the signing of a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Egypt’s Institute for Diplomatic Studies and the Liberian Foreign Service Institute. This agreement aims to facilitate the exchange of expertise, joint training programs, and institutional development for diplomats in both countries.

Minister Nyanti expressed Liberia's deep appreciation for Egypt’s consistent support and reiterated her country's commitment to working with Egypt to achieve shared interests and foster stability across the African continent.
