The speaker of the House of Representatives Hanafy El-Gebaly stressed that Egypt and Jordan will continue to work together to achieve economic integration among Arab countries and at the same time find solutions for regional problems, particularly the Palestinian cause.

El-Gebaly's remark came during a meeting with the Speaker of the Jordanian Senate Faisal Al-Fayez in Amman on Wednesday.

"We are proud of Egypt's prestigious relationship and historical ties with Jordan and the continued coordination between our two countries to find a just and permanent solution for the Palestinian cause and build an independent Palestinian state on the borders of 4 June, 1967," said El-Gebaly.

He added that trilateral mechanism of cooperation between Egypt, Jordan and Iraq sets a good example of Arab-Arab political and economic cooperation.

For his part, Speaker Al-Fayez called for holding an Arab economic summit as an important step towards achieving Arab economic integration.

"The Egyptian, Jordanian and Iraqi cooperation are the nucleus of Arab economic integration in the future," said Al-Fayez.

“We highly appreciate Egypt's support for all that goes in favour of stability in Jordan,” he said.

“We also support Egypt's position on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), including Egypt's right to secure its water stability since this is part of the Arab national security in general."

El-Gebaly and El-Fayez also announced setting up an Egypt-Jordan Parliamentary Brotherhood Committee.

"This committee will act as forum to exchange legislative experience and coordinate our parliamentary positions at Arab and international levels," said El-Gebaly.

Meeting PM Khasawneh

In a meeting with Prime Minister of Jordan Bisher El-Khasawneh, El-Gebaly reaffirmed Egypt’s keenness on boosting economic cooperation between the two countries.

"We are looking forward to holding the Higher Joint Egyptian-Jordanian Committee in the near future to boost economic cooperation between our two countries," added El-Gebaly.

For his part, PM El-Khaswaneh said Jordan is closely following with admiration Egypt's efforts to modernize its infrastructure, particularly in the area of building roads and new cities.

"We will also continue to support cooperation with Egypt and Iraq as this can be the nucleus of a comprehensive Arab-Arab economic integration," he added.
