Egypt’s Foreign Minister and Minister of Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed the depth of the historical ties between Egypt and Algeria and the shared commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation across political, economic, trade, and investment fields.
The remarks came during Abdelatty’s meeting with Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs Ahmed Attaf on the sidelines of his visit to Tunisia.
According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the meeting focused on ways to enhance relations between the two brotherly countries and build on the positive momentum witnessed in recent years.
Abdelatty hailed the growing level of coordination and cooperation between Cairo and Algiers, stressing the importance of continued consultation on regional and international issues of mutual concern.
Discussions also addressed key regional developments, particularly the situation in the Gaza Strip and U.S. President Donald Trump’s initiative to launch a Peace Council. Abdelatty welcomed the initiative, underscoring the importance of advancing the second phase of the U.S. plan, supporting the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, and deploying an international stabilization force to monitor the ceasefire. He added that these steps would pave the way for early recovery and reconstruction efforts, while ensuring the uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid into the enclave.
Regarding Libya, the two ministers exchanged views on the latest developments, with Abdelatty reiterating Egypt’s full support for a political settlement that preserves Libya’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and ensures that the political process remains Libyan-owned. He also stressed the need to create conducive conditions for holding simultaneous elections, ending political division, and rejecting any foreign interference that could hinder a sustainable solution.
In this context, both sides highlighted the importance of the trilateral consultation mechanism among the foreign ministers of Egypt, Tunisia, and Algeria as a key framework for coordinating positions and intensifying efforts by neighboring states to support stability in Libya.
The talks further covered developments in Sudan, where Abdelatty emphasized the urgency of reaching a humanitarian truce and establishing safe humanitarian corridors and shelters as a step toward a comprehensive ceasefire. He also stressed the importance of launching an inclusive political process with full Sudanese ownership.
Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s firm position on respecting Sudan’s sovereignty, preserving its unity and territorial integrity, and supporting its national institutions.
