Egypt Advances Three Spots in Global Innovation Index 2023

Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, announced that Egypt has advanced three places in the Global Innovation Index during the year 2023, as it ranked 86th globally out of 132 countries, according to the report issued by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) for the year 2023, compared to 89th place in 2022. .

Saqr, President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, pointed out that Egypt’s ranking has advanced significantly in the Global Innovation Index in the last four years. Egypt has advanced 10 places since 2020, when it was ranked 96th globally, then it ranked 94th globally in 2021, then 89th globally. In 2022, until it ranked 86th globally in 2023, explaining that Egypt has advanced 19 places in the Global Innovation Index since 2013.

He added that the Global Innovation Index is one of the important international indicators issued by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), noting that it ranks countries according to innovation, its institutions, and the factors that support and motivate it.

Adel Abdel Ghaffar, the media advisor and official spokesman for the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, stated that the remarkable growth witnessed by Egyptian universities and research centers in international scientific publishing is due to several measures taken during the last period, the most important of which are: the technical support provided by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to Egyptian universities, international publishing training; Pointing to what universities and research centers do to motivate researchers with all academic degrees to publish in prestigious international journals, and the distinguished appreciation that internationally published scientific research receives in the work of scientific promotion committees, and the availability of information sources to researchers via the Internet, and cooperation with the Egyptian Knowledge Bank.

The official spokesman added that international publishing of scientific research in Egypt through universities and research centers will increase significantly in the future in light of the implementation of the Ministry’s plan to support researchers in the field of international publishing, through the role played by the Ministry’s Science, Technology and Innovation Funding Authority in supporting and motivating researchers during the coming period.
