Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced that Burullus Gas Company has successfully brought two new wells into production in the Mediterranean’s West Delta Deep Marine area, adding a combined output of 60 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.
The new Sapphire South Central DP well, the third well under Phase 11 of the West Delta Deep Marine development project, has begun production at around 50 million cubic feet of gas per day, in addition to 800 barrels of condensates — equivalent to 9,400 barrels of oil equivalent daily.
Meanwhile, the Scarab D4 well was brought back into production after a prolonged shutdown, contributing an additional 10 million cubic feet of gas per day, or roughly 1,700 barrels of oil equivalent daily.
Officials said the wells were brought online in line with the ministry’s strategy to bolster domestic production and cover peak summer demand.
Speaking at the general assembly of Rashid and Burullus Gas Companies, Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi highlighted the significance of the West Delta Deep Marine project, stressing that the successful implementation of its 10th and 11th development phases reflected the government’s incentive packages aimed at restoring investor confidence.
“These phases are a testament to our efforts to accelerate projects, attract new investments, and ensure stable supplies of natural gas to meet local market needs,” Badawi said, praising the company’s safety standards and community initiatives.
Shell Egypt Chairperson Dalia El-Gabry expressed pride in Burullus Gas Company’s performance, noting that production had doubled while maintaining strict adherence to safety. She emphasized Shell’s commitment to investing in Egypt and overcoming challenges through close cooperation with the petroleum sector.
Similarly, Hani Ismet, CEO of Petronas Egypt, reaffirmed the Malaysian company’s strong partnership with Egypt, describing the country as a vital market rich with opportunities.
Eng. Sayed Selim, Chairman of Rashid Petroleum and Burullus Gas, said the company had successfully drilled and completed six wells under Phases 10 and 11, with total investments reaching \$575 million. He added that all wells are now on stream, bringing total output from the two phases to 305 million cubic feet of gas per day and 3,630 barrels of condensates daily — effectively doubling the company’s production.
