Egypt Aborts $25 Mln Drug Smuggling Attempt

The Egyptian Ministry of Interior announced on Sunday that it has aborted an attempt to smuggle 11 million tablets of Captagon drug into a container in Damietta seaport.

The ministry said in a statement that the General Administration for Narcotics Control was able to seize a container coming from an Arab country to the port of another Arab country through the port of Damietta.

The statement indicated that the shipment contained water filters, and inside of it the 11 million Captagon tablets were found hidden inside 118 packages each containing 25 water filters "filter candles".

The value of the seized drugs is estimated at 385 million Egyptian pounds (about 25 million US dollars).
