President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met today with Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian, France.
Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, Official Spokesperson for the Presidency, stated that President El-Sisi hailed the positive momentum in Egypt-EU relations since their elevation to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2024. The President emphasized Egypt's commitment to deepening these ties and exploring collaborative opportunities in innovative and non-traditional sectors. In this regard, he highlighted ongoing efforts to implement the outcomes of both the 2024 Investment Conference and the high-level economic event held alongside the Egypt-EU Summit in October 2025.
President El-Sisi also reviewed the structural economic reforms enacted by the Egyptian state to boost competitiveness, enhance economic resilience, and improve the investment climate, expressing optimism that these measures would drive an expansion of European business operations in Egypt.
Ambassador El-Shenawy added that the European Commission President expressed the satisfaction of the Commission and European institutions with the steady progress of bilateral cooperation. Von der Leyen commended the Egyptian government’s economic reform trajectory over recent years, alongside its pivotal role in combating terrorism and irregular migration—particularly given the heavy economic and humanitarian burdens Egypt carries due to regional crises.
Concluding the meeting, von der Leyen reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to working closely with Egypt to address shared challenges, foster peace, and strengthen Mediterranean cross-border cooperation.
