The Democratic Republic of the Congo has recorded a sharp increase in Ebola infections, with confirmed cases climbing to 1,792, according to the country's health authorities.
Official statistics released on Friday showed that the outbreak has claimed 625 lives, underscoring the severity of one of the country's latest public health crises.
Health officials warned that Ebola remains one of the world's deadliest viruses, causing a severe and often fatal illness. The virus spreads through direct contact with the bodily fluids of infected individuals or those who have died from the disease.
Authorities continue to strengthen surveillance, treatment and containment measures in an effort to curb the spread of the virus and prevent further infections.
