Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and his family had all contracted coronavirus. The former wrestler revealed in a video posted on social media that they were diagnosed with the virus, two-and-a-half weeks ago.

Johnson, who is now the world's highest-paid actor, said he, his wife, and two daughters contracted the virus despite being "disciplined" about health protection, describing the positive diagnosis were "a kick in the gut".

However, he was quick to reassure that they are on the other end of it and no longer contagious.

Johnson revealed that he, his wife Lauren, and their daughters Jasmine, 4, and Tiana, 2, contracted the virus from "very close family friends", who had no idea how they had been infected.

"I can tell you that this has been one of the most challenging and difficult things we have ever had to endure as a family," Johnson stated in a video posted on his Instagram account.

He continued: "Testing positive for Covid-19 is much different than overcoming nasty injuries, or being evicted or even being broke, which I have been more than a few times,".

"My number one priority is to always protect my family. We are counting our blessings right now because we're well aware that it isn't always the case that you get on the other end of Covid-19 stronger and healthier," Johnson added.

He noted: "It baffles me that some people out there, including some politicians, will take this idea of wearing masks and make it part of a political agenda. It has nothing to do with politics. Wear your mask. It is a fact. And it is the right thing to do."

The Wrestler-turned-movie star followed his father Rocky to become a professional wrestler and a World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) star.

He became a huge success in the sport before turning to acting, starring in blockbuster movies such as The Scorpion King, Fast & Furious 6, and the Jumanji franchise.

Johnson recently made the headlines after being named by Forbes as the best-paid actor in Hollywood, for the second time in a row.

He topped Forbes’ list of highest male earners with $23.5 million, according to an annual tally released by Forbes magazine on August 12.

The 48-year-old actor earned $87.5 million from June 1, 2019, to June 1, 2020, Forbes revealed, including a $23.5 million check from Netflix for his upcoming film, “Red Notice” and his ‘Project Rock’ fitness wear line for Under Armour Inc.

Johnson made slightly less in 2020 than he did in 2019, after earning $ 89.4 million last year for starring in Jumanji: The Next Level, as well as several other projects.

It is worth mentioning that the novel coronavirus was first reported in Wuhan, China, and has infected more than one million people and killed over 234,139 worldwide. It also hit several celebrities and top political figures around the world.

The virus is a new member of the Coronaviruses group, which was never identified in humans. The viruses’ family also includes Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV), which cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases.

Coronaviruses are zoonotic, meaning they are transmitted between animals and people. Humans and animals such as mammals and birds can be affected by the disease.

The name coronavirus is derived from the Latin corona, meaning “crown” or “halo”.

On February 11, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced the official name for the disease caused by the new coronavirus is Covid-19, taken from the words “corona”, “virus”, and “disease”.

In December 2019, an outbreak was reported in Wuhan, China. On 31 December 2019, the outbreak was traced to a novel strain of coronavirus, which was given the interim name 2019-nCoV by WHO, it was later renamed SARS-CoV-2 by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses.

On March 11, WHO declared coronavirus a global pandemic as the new virus has rapidly spread to more than 800,000 people from Asia to the Middle East, Europe, and the United States.

Transmission of viruses between humans happens when someone comes into contact with an infected person’s secretions, such as droplets in a cough.

Coronavirus can also be transmitted by coming into contact with something an infected person has touched and then touching your mouth, nose, or eyes.

It is known that older people appear to be more vulnerable to the effects of the emerging virus.

The virus caused complete paralysis in all activities and events with large gatherings worldwide due to concerns over the spread of the virus.

People across the globe partake in self-isolation for 14 days as an effective precautionary measure to protect those around them and themselves from contracting COVID-19.
