Dutch Police Use Water Cannons to Disperse Protesters Against Coronavirus Measures

Dutch police used today, Saturday, water cannons to disperse people who gathered in Amsterdam to protest against the continuing restrictions imposed by the government to limit the spread of the Coronavirus.  In the Netherlands (Holland).

About 250 people joined  Museum Square in the center of the Dutch capital. The police told the demonstrators to leave, but they refused. But law enforcement authorities responded to the angry protesters by using water cannons.

On the other hand, yesterday, Friday, the Dutch authorities announced the largest jump in new infections with the Coronavirus (COVID-19) since January 2021, with about 7,400 cases recorded during the past 24 hours.

New infections are about 20% larger compared to what was the case a week ago, while the number of COVID-19 patients receiving hospital care increased by 7% in the past week.

The public health authorities in the Netherlands have repeatedly warned of an imminent new wave of infections, caused by the emergence of new mutated strains of the virus.

On Tuesday, the authorities said that the mutated version, first discovered in Britain late last year, accounts for about 75% of all new infections in the country.

On Friday, the Dutch authorities announced the largest jump in new infections with the Coronavirus since January 2021.

Dutch Minister of Justice, Ferd Graberhaus, told the national news agency "ANB", that Coronavirus infections in the Netherlands jumped by about 7,400 cases during the past 24 hours, the largest increase since early January.

The health authorities reported, in a new count, that they recorded 7,425 injuries, compared with 6171 in Thursday's data, bringing the general outcome to the level of 1187037 cases.

New infections are about 20% larger on Friday compared to what was the case a week ago, while the number of C OVID-19 patients receiving hospital care increased by 7% in the past week.
