African football legend Didier Drogba believes Egypt and Algeria failing to qualify for the World Cup was expected as the five qualified teams were the deserving ones.

In the final round of 2022 World Cup qualifiers, Egypt clashed with Senegal while Algeria came face to face with Cameroon.

Both Egypt and Algeria had hopes to reach the World Cup until the final moments, with Senegal beating the Pharaohs on penalties, while Cameroon snatched the qualification with a last-grasp winner.

Senegal and Cameroon were also accompanied by Tunisia, Morocco, and Ghana as they will be the five African representatives in the 2022 World Cup.

Talking to beIN Sports, Chelsea legend Didier Drogba claimed that the qualified nations are the best in Africa, and that seeing Egypt and Algeria being knocked out wasn’t surprising.

“I hope that one day I see an African team winning the World Cup,” Drogba said.

“The World Cup should have more African teams, I am glad that will happen starting from the next edition.

“Egypt and Algeria failing to qualify was expected, the teams that qualified are the best in Africa.”
