GUC Law Graduates Will Represent Breakthrough in Egypt, World

Dr. Ashraf Mansour, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the German University in Cairo GUC said that the world includes a different curriculum, such as the one of the Faculty of Law, as there are laws for the environment, cybercrime, migration, international trade, international forum representation and multilateral criminal cases.

Addressing the fourth edition of the advisory Council meeting, held in Berlin, Mansour stressed that one of the most important objectives of the faculty of Law’s Program at the German University is to re-establish international and regional presence and set up legislations in all legal disciplines in Egypt and the world, pointing out that we shouldn’t separate ourselves from the outside world.

He also pointed out to the convergence of Egyptian and French laws, noting that the French law is essentially similar to the German one, therefore the end of the equation is that German law is similar to the Egyptian one.

The Advisory Council includes a list of famous teaching staff, judiciary and trade members in Germany, as well as famous professor Dr. Omaia Elwan, the Egyptian Professor of Law at the University of Heidelberg. This proves the depth and strength of Egypt and the importance of the German University in Cairo.

Mansour confirmed that the Faculty of Law at the German University seeks to have distinguished and unique graduates in Egypt and the world. Those graduates will be able to deal with investment cases, multinational contracts, commercial contracts, intellectual property, corporations and governments, international bodies, and arbitration cases.

Moreover, those graduates will also be aware of development, economy, legislations, international laws and world trade. They will be capable of reading, understanding, applying, searching, and developing.

Mansour revealed that he wants to have a graduate who understands the spirit and the process of law, and can deal with the cases professionally so that he tends to the correct and accurate information and instantaneously interacts with information, and data, pointing out that the graduate is trained to deal with the changing data.

"GUC has a distinguished training office for students. The training process is supervised by specialists in cooperation with 23 countries and 67 universities," Mansour said, confirming that the number of the graduates of the next academic year will reach 50, while the college now includes 300 students.

Mansour congratulated Dr. Moufid Shehab for receiving the Nile Prize in Social Sciences.

Noteworthy, the fourth edition of the advisory council of the Faculty of Law and Legal Studies at GUC was held in Berlin at the University's headquarters in Germany. The council includes prominent public figures from Egypt and Germany.

The German side includes 13 jurists from the Federal Republic of Germany, most notably Michael Jansch, the founding dean of the college, lawyer and legal expert at Berlin university d. Ulrich Bates, Stefan Kaufman, President of the Constitutional Court, Omaia Elwan, professor of law at the University of Heidelberg, Oliver Flyge , a judge in Hamburg, Dr. Horst Hetland, Director of the Department of Justice at the Federal Ministry of Justice, Alexander Lynch, a judge in Berlin, and Hagen Halsbrink, professor of law at the htw university in Berlin.

While the Egyptian side includes a galaxy of iconic figures like; former higher education minister and former minister of Legal Affairs and Parliamentary Councils Dr. Mofed Shehab, former education minister and law Professor Dr. Ahmed Gamal Al Din, former attorney-general Dr Abdel Magid Mahmoud, deputy justice minister chancellor Zakria Abdel Aziz, vice-president of the constitutional court chancellor Ragab Selim, and Dr. Al Said Shawky, lawyer and legal expert.

The council aims at setting up strategies for the development of curriculum and education system at GUC’s faculty of Law and legal studies, in addition to training students and providing them with the necessary skills in order to be qualified to engage strongly in the Egyptian and international job market.
