"Boycott Tesla," protesters chanted at a rally outside the electric carmaker's showroom in Lisbon on Sunday to protest CEO Elon Musk's support for far-right parties in Europe as Portugal heads toward possible snap elections.
Musk uses his X platform to promote right-wing parties and figures in Germany, Britain, Italy and Romania. He has stayed out of politics in Portugal, where the far-right Chega party has risen to become the third-largest force in parliament.
In the capital Lisbon, protesters held up banners depicting US President Donald Trump and his billionaire adviser Musk, some reading "Boycott Tesla."
Musk's political stance appears to be hurting Tesla, whose European sales plunged 45% in January from a year earlier, while those of its rivals jumped more than 37%, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association.
