Dozens of Palestinians suffered suffocation injuries on Saturday after Israeli settlers, under the protection of Israeli occupation forces, attacked the village of Al-Mughayyir, northeast of Ramallah.
According to Amin Abu Alia, Head of the Al-Mughayyir Village Council, settler groups attempted to storm the village from the eastern side, prompting local residents to confront them. Israeli forces then raided the village to secure the settler assault, firing toxic tear gas canisters at civilians and homes, leading to multiple injuries from gas inhalation.
Arrest and Checkpoints in Bethlehem
In a related development, Israeli forces detained a Palestinian citizen for several hours at a surprise military checkpoint near the town of Al-Shawawra, east of Bethlehem.
A Palestinian security source said the man, identified as Abu Shaeira, was stopped and held before being released later.
The Israeli military also erected multiple flying checkpoints across Bethlehem Governorate, particularly at the entrances of Joura Al-Shamaa (south), and Wadi Fukin and Husan (west), causing significant disruption to local movement.
Additionally, a military checkpoint was set up at the entrance to Ash Ghurab, east of Bethlehem, where Israeli forces inspected vehicles and ID cards, further slowing traffic. The Ash Ghurab road is a vital link between southern and northern West Bank regions.
Continued Raids in Al-Khader
Israeli forces also stormed several neighborhoods in the town of Al-Khader, south of Bethlehem. No arrests were reported, though residents reported an intimidating military presence.
Bethlehem has seen a notable escalation in Israeli military operations in recent weeks, including frequent raids, checkpoint installations, and tight restrictions on movement, in what locals describe as a deliberate campaign to disrupt daily life and intensify pressure on residents.
