The government of the Australian state of Victoria announced on Sunday that the forest fires and storms that struck the state during the past days caused the destruction of dozens of homes, in addition to cutting off electricity to tens of thousands of citizens.
The government stated that at least 44 homes were destroyed due to the ongoing forest fires in the west of the state, while at least 16 homes were destroyed in the south of the state due to storms that tore off the roofs of homes and toppled trees and electricity poles, according to Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) radio.
The government began disbursing financial aid to those affected, while monitoring the losses is still ongoing, anticipating an increase in the number of destroyed homes.
