Slovak authorities reported on Monday that 79 people were injured following a collision between two passenger trains near the capital, Bratislava.

Officials confirmed that none of the injuries sustained in the crash, which occurred on Sunday evening, were life-threatening.

According to the national emergency service, the injured passengers were transported to several hospitals for treatment.

Preliminary reports suggested that a regional express train may have ignored a stop signal and entered the track leading toward Bratislava, where it collided with a high-speed train, according to the ZSR rail network.

The Director General of the Slovak Railways, Ivan Bednárik, told the Slovak News Agency that investigations are still underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.

Public broadcaster RTVS reported that around 800 passengers were on board the two trains at the time of the collision, according to Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok.
