Focus Features has pushed the release of “Downton Abbey 2” from December 22, 2021, to March 18, 2022.
The movie will now open along with “Unbreakable Boy,” a drama starring Zachary Levi, Meghann Fahy, and Patricia Heaton.
“Downton Abbey 2” is the follow-up to the hit 2019 movie, the spinoff of the popular TV show that bears the same title.
The 2019 movie witnessed the first return of the Crawley family since the hugely successful “Downton Abbey” series ended in 2016, which followed a royal visit to Downton and an assassination attempt on the King of England.
It allocated more than $194 million from a budget estimated at $13-20 million.
“Downton Abbey 2” is produced by Carnival Films and distributed Internationally by Focus and Universal Pictures.
The sequel will bring back most of the original cast, including Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville, Jim Carter, Laura Carmichael, and Michelle Dockery.
The cast will also feature some newcomers such as Laura Haddock, Hugh Dancy, Nathalie Baye, and Dominic West.
Simon Curtis directed from a script written by the show creator Julian Fellowes.
Emmy and BAFTA Award-winning Gareth Neame and Emmy Award-winning Liz Trubridge are producing along with Fellowes.
“Downton Abbey 2” is set to wrap production next month.
