Hollywood Legend Doris Day Dies Aged 97

Doris Day, Hollywood legend, actress, and singer died on Monday at the age of 97.

"Doris Day passed away early this morning at her Carmel Valley home," Doris Day Animal Foundation (DDAF) said in a statement. "Day had been in excellent physical health for her age, until recently contracting a serious case of pneumonia, resulting in her death," the statement added.

"She was surrounded by a few close friends as she passed," it continued.

"With heavy hearts, we share the news that Doris Day passed away peacefully this morning at her home in Carmel, Calif. She was 97," DDAF tweeted, mourning the death of the American actress.

About Doris Day

she is an American actress and animal welfare activist, who was born on April 3, 1922.

Day began her career as a big band singer in 1939. The Legendary Hollywood actress married four times.

Her first marriage was to musicians Al Jorden from March 1941 to February 1943. The American actress second marriage was to George Weidler from 1946 to 1949.

On her 29th birthday, she married the American film producer Martin Melcher, while her fourth marriage was to Barry Comden (1976-81).

During Day's first marriage, she gave birth to her only child Terry Melcher.

The Hollywood actress received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2004.
