Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières)  announced that more than 20,000 wounded are still in the Gaza Strip after the first batch of wounded and sick people were evacuated from the Palestinian Strip to Egypt via the Rafah land crossing point yesterday, Wednesday.

The organization said in a statement that "more than 20,000 wounded are still in Gaza, with limited access to health care, due to the siege and ongoing bombing" by the Israeli army.

It explained that its 22 international employees left Gaza, demanding that a larger number of residents of the Strip be allowed to leave it, “without additional delay and without prejudice to their right to return to Gaza later.”

The organization also called for an "immediate ceasefire," adding: "Essential medical supplies and humanitarian workers must be allowed to enter Gaza, where hospitals are overcrowded and the health system is at risk of complete collapse."

According to an Egyptian official, 76 wounded Palestinians were able to leave the Gaza Strip on Wednesday during the first evacuation allowed since the war between Israel and Hamas began on October 7.
