A diver was killed in a shark attack off the coast of Western Australia on Saturday, marking the country's fourth fatal shark attack of the year.
Authorities said the man, believed to be in his 30s, was spearfishing near Michaelmas Island southeast of Perth when he was attacked by a shark estimated to be 4.5 metres long.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:25 a.m. local time. Emergency responders brought the victim ashore, but he could not be revived.
Following the attack, state authorities urged residents and visitors to exercise extreme caution in the area and monitor shark sighting alerts.
The fatality comes just two weeks after another deadly shark attack in Queensland. Marine experts say increased human activity in coastal waters and rising ocean temperatures may be altering shark migration patterns, potentially contributing to a rise in attacks.
