The Walt Disney Company said that it will close its theme parks in California and Florida and its resort in Paris starting Mar. 15 and until the end of the month to help limit the spread of coronavirus.
The US company said all new reservations will be suspended from Saturday to the end of the month.
"We are continuing to close our theme parks at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disneyland Paris, from mid March to the end of the month," the company said in a statement.
Disney had previously said that Disneyland and California Adventure parks in Southern California would be closed on Saturday, adding that hotels in both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Paris will remain open until further notice.
As for the theme parks in Tokyo, Hong Kong and Shanghai, they are all still closed after being closed earlier this year in response to the outbreak of the virus.
Meantime, Disney shares closed 13.05 % down, the day Wall Street's main indices fell nearly 10%.
A company representative said in a statement that no cases of COVID-19 had been reported in the park, yet, the company is taking preventive precautions.
The announcement comes as public gatherings are restricted statewide based on orderes by California Governor Gavin Newsome.
finally, S&P 500 set Disney’s outlook to negative from stable, citing event cancellations and travel restrictions.
