The German newspaper "Der Spiegel" confirmed, today, Saturday, that the Operation IRINI had evidence of the Turkish ship smuggling weapons to Libya before its inspection, according to Sky News Arabia.

The German Defense Ministry said that Turkey’s protest against German soldiers ’search of a Turkish ship in the Mediterranean is unjustified.

Turkey has prevented the German army from inspecting a transport ship belonging to the first suspected of transporting weapons to Libya, according to the German magazine "Der Spiegel".

It is reported that the forces of the operation IRINI are inspecting ships in implementation of the relevant Security Council resolutions on the arms embargo.

EU-Irini military analysts — in the report for United Nations experts — had previously spotted military aircraft being unloaded in the Libyan port of Misrata in satellite images, the German news magazine Der Spiegel reported.

The suspicious cargo was again sighted in November while the ship was docked in the Turkish port of Ambarli — located in the Sea of Marmara near Istanbul — said the confidential EU report's authors.
