Danish monarch Queen Margrethe II has been hospitalized in Denmark after suffering a fall that caused a large hematoma in her hip, the royal palace announced.
The 86-year-old queen, who abdicated in favor of her son Frederik X two years ago, underwent scans that revealed significant internal bruising following the accident.
She is expected to remain at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen for several days, although the palace said her condition is “good under the circumstances.”
Queen Margrethe recently underwent heart-related surgery in May and has faced several health issues in recent years despite remaining one of Denmark’s most popular royal figures.
