Denmark has signed a seven-year contract with German defence manufacturer Rheinmetall to supply ammunition worth €100 million, the company announced.
In a statement, Rheinmetall said it had received a major order to provide ammunition to Denmark, a member of both the European Union and NATO. The long-term framework agreement includes the delivery of several types of ammunition to support Denmark’s armed forces.
The contract covers medium-calibre ammunition for infantry fighting vehicles and self-propelled anti-aircraft systems, as well as 120mm tank ammunition and 155mm artillery shells, according to the company.
Rheinmetall confirmed that the framework agreement was signed on 30 January. While the company did not disclose exact quantities, it said the total number of rounds runs into five figures, with the overall value potentially reaching several hundred million euros over the full duration of the contract.
Rheinmetall Chief Executive Armin Papperger welcomed the deal, thanking Denmark for its confidence in the company as a key supplier of defence ammunition.
The agreement comes as European NATO members continue to expand defence procurement and stockpiling efforts amid heightened security concerns across the region.
