Denmark has committed to providing €54 million (405 million kroner) in humanitarian aid and reconstruction support for Ukraine, the Danish Foreign Ministry announced on Sunday.

The pledge comes on the eve of the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.

In a statement, the ministry emphasized the urgent need for reconstruction in Ukraine, citing the extensive destruction of infrastructure and production capacity.

It also highlighted the dire humanitarian situation, referencing UN estimates that nearly 13 million Ukrainians will require humanitarian assistance in 2025.

Approximately half of the newly announced aid package will go toward essential humanitarian relief, including food, medicine, water, and shelter for those in the hardest-hit areas.

The remaining funds will be directed toward reconstruction efforts.

Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen reaffirmed Denmark’s long-term commitment to Ukraine, stating that the country “will stand with Ukraine for as long as necessary.”

With this latest contribution, Denmark’s total humanitarian aid to Ukraine since the invasion has surpassed €134 million.

Additionally, Denmark has provided around €7.2 billion in military assistance.

Last week, Rasmussen and Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen stressed the need for a large-scale rearmament effort in Europe, warning of an escalating threat from Russia.

In response, Denmark has announced a defense spending increase of 50 billion kroner (€6.7 billion) over the next two years.
