Denmark has officially taken over the rotating presidency of the United Nations Security Council for March, succeeding China.
The Danish Ambassador to the UN, Kristina Markus Lassen, will hold a press conference on Monday to outline the Council’s agenda after its approval in a morning session.
The Security Council consists of 15 member states, each with one vote. Five permanent members—China, Russia, France, the United Kingdom, and the United States—hold veto power.
The remaining ten are non-permanent members elected for two-year terms by the General Assembly.
Alongside Denmark, the current non-permanent members include Algeria, Guyana, South Korea, Sierra Leone, Slovenia, Somalia, Pakistan, Panama, and Greece.
As Council president, Denmark will oversee discussions on key global security issues and coordinate diplomatic efforts to address international conflicts and crises.
