On Sunday, A large-scale demonstrations against poor living circumstances and lack of services have continued in Libya's al-Zawiya City for the third day in a row.
The demonstrators took to the city streets and chanted slogans against the unauthorized Government of National Accord(GNA) and its Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha.
The protesters ’attitude came after they were assaulted by militias affiliated with the Interior Ministry of GNA two days ago and an attempt to disperse them with live bullets.
During the past two days, Al-Zawiya witnessed angry demonstrations to protest against the lack of services and terrible living circumstances. The protesters set tires on fire and some roads were blocked.
On Saturday, Al-Zawiya Municipal Council issued a statement condemning the decision of the GNA's Interior Minister, who sacked the Director of Al-Zawiya’s Security Directorate.
Al-Zawiya Council expressed its support for the legitimate demands made by the city residents for a decent and affordable life, the statement read.
The Municipal Council held the Prime Minister of the Presidential Council of the Government of National Accord, Fayez al-Sarraj, fully responsible for failing to respond to the demands made by the Municipal Council to implement Law 59.
Al-Zawiya Municipal Council condemned the failure of Al-Sarraj and his government to provide job opportunities for youth in light of terrible living circumstances.
It also affirmed that it was against all suspicious acts aimed at disrupting the interests of citizens, creating chaos and prejudicing public facilities to involve the state in conflicts.
On Friday, Libya’s Government of National Accord, headed by Fayez al-Sarraj, announced, on Friday, a nationwide ceasefire and ordered its forces to halt all military operations across the country.
The GNA’s chairman also called for holding presidential and parliamentary elections in the upcoming March, according to a statemented signed by Sarraj.
