Democrats in the United States have expressed strong anger over the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, after a U.S. military operation was carried out without prior notification or authorization from Congress.

The U.S. operation in Venezuela, which resulted in the arrest of Maduro and his wife, was described as a strategic and military success. The mission reportedly lasted about three hours inside Venezuelan territory and achieved its primary objective with no major losses, apart from minor injuries among U.S. soldiers and limited damage to one helicopter.

Despite the operational outcome, the arrest has sparked wide political controversy in Washington, particularly within Congress. Democratic lawmakers criticized the administration for failing to inform Congress in advance, arguing that the move bypassed congressional oversight and raised serious constitutional and legal concerns.

So far, no official hearings have been held in either the House of Representatives or the Senate to question officials from the Pentagon or the U.S. administration about the details, justification, or consequences of the operation.

Concerns have also emerged over the international repercussions of the move, with critics warning that direct U.S. intervention in Venezuela could harm Washington’s global image. Opponents argue the operation may undermine the United States’ standing among allies and supporters of democratic values, raising questions about its role as a defender of democracy and a leader of the free world.

The arrest of Maduro represents a major escalation in U.S.-Venezuela relations and is expected to remain at the center of political debate in Washington in the coming days.
