The government of India’s national capital has rolled out a broad-based anti-pollution campaign ahead of the winter smog season, TV BRICS reported.

In a meeting at the Delhi Secretariat attended by senior ministers and top officials, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the activation of multiple rapid-response teams tasked with inspecting industrial units and vehicles suspected of exceeding pollution norms.

These inspection teams will submit daily reports to the Chief Minister and Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, according to the Chief Minister’s Office.

The drive specifically targets the city’s pollution “hotspots”, where authorities are already undertaking mechanical cleaning and continuous water-sprinkling operations to reduce dust levels.([tvbrics.com][1]) The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has been ordered to ramp up cleaning of roads, markets and residential neighbourhoods, and to swiftly remove waste that can contribute to air and ground-level pollution.

In addition, new squads are being established to combat illegal burning of garbage — a major contributor to winter air-quality deterioration across the region.

According to the administration, these measures reflect the capital’s elevated commitment to urban environmental management and tie into India’s broader national agenda on sustainable development.

As temperatures drop and inversion layers form, Delhi has historically experienced steep rises in fine-particulate pollution — prompting this pre-emptive campaign. While the authorities emphasise the immediate operational steps, environmental analysts say sustained action — including industrial regulation, traffic curbs and agricultural stubble-burn control in neighbouring states — will be required for meaningful improvement.

The campaign will be closely watched as Delhi heads into its most challenging air-quality period.
