The death toll from a massive fire that broke out in a hotel in western Cambodia has risen to 25, with more than 60 injured.
The death toll rose after six bodies were found today, some in their rooms and others on the stairs of the hotel, “ABC” channel reported noting that the death toll is expected to rise as rescuers are able to reach more victims who are believed to be under the rubble or in closed rooms.
The authorities stated that preliminary investigations indicated that the fire may have been caused by the high temperature of the electric wires in the New Year's holiday decorations.
For his part, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen expressed his condolences to the families of the victims. He also expressed his thanks to all the people who participated in the rescue efforts.
The fire, which broke out at the Grand Diamond City Hotel and Casino in the border town of Poipet, was extinguished after more than 12 hours.
