At least 20 people were killed, in addition to dozens injured in an attack on Aden airport on Wednesday moments after a plane landed carrying a newly formed Yemeni government.

The cabinet members, including Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalik, as well as Saudi Ambassador to Yemen Mohammed Said al-Jaber, were transferred safely to the city's presidential palace, the witnesses and Saudi media said.

Abdulmalik stressed that “the terrorist act that targeted Aden airport is part of a war waged against the state,” according to the Al-Arabiya News website.

On his part, Yemen’s Minister of Information Muammar al-Eryani accused the Ansar Allah armed group [the Houthis] of carrying out this terrorist attack on Aden airport, which killed many and seriously injured others.

“We reassure our great people that all members of the government are fine,” Al-Eryani said, affirming that “this cowardly terrorist attack will not deter us from carrying out our national duty.”

It is worth mentioning that, initial reports indicate that a drone was used in the attack on Aden airport, injuring at least 20 people.

Notably, Yemen’s new unity government was sworn in, 4 days ago, following long months of violent clashes in southern provinces with Houthis.
