On Mondy, local sources said at least 16 people were killed, including children, and others were injured in a number of governorates in northern and southern Yemen due to heavy rains.

The torrential rains are currently affecting many parts of the country due to air depression.

Local sources in Shabwah Governorate in southeastern Yemen told Reuters that a woman and a child from one family drowned in the torrential waters of the Bayhan district on Sunday evening, while people managed to rescue 9 others after the floods surrounded a car carrying the family of 11 people, including 6 women and 4 children, while they were out for a walk.

At least 11 people, including five children, have died in Sanaa and the agricultural province of Dhamar, which is located 100 km south of the Yemeni capital, due to torrential rains since the beginning of the week.

On Saturday, Sanaa and several cities in the northern regions of the country under the control of the Iran-aligned Houthi militia witnessed unprecedented torrential rains that lasted for several hours, causing almost complete halt to traffic in a number of main streets and intersections in the capital.

Residents in Sanaa confirmed to Reuters that heavy rains caused panic among citizens after the water level rose in the main fluid that separates the two sides of the old city of Sanaa, a "strategic project to protect the city from flood damage and disasters" that the US contributed to establishing years ago.
