The Vietnamese government announced on Wednesday that the death toll from Typhoon Yagi and the resulting landslides and massive floods in the northern regions of the country had risen to 141 people.
The government warned - as reported by Channel News Asia in its English-language bulletin - that the floods may cause the water level of the Red River to rise significantly, threatening to submerge areas in the center of the capital, Hanoi.
For its part, the Disaster Management Authority stated that the Typhoon has caused the loss of 59 people so far, serious damage to property and stopped businesses.
