On Sunday, South Korean five authorities said the death toll from Halloween Stampede reached 146, and 150 others were injured.
The accident occurred in a narrow, sloping alley near the Hamilton Hotel in the popular nightlife district after a crowd of party-goers flocked, according to witnesses.
Tens of thousands of people were visiting the area for Halloween parties.
Fire authorities confirmed that 146 people were killed as of early Sunday morning and 150 others were injured, adding that the death toll may rise further.
The authorities also said that the victims in their twenties represented the age group most affected by the accident.
Rumors at the scene were that a crowd flocked to a spot to watch a celebrity or drug-filled candy was distributed in clubs, but the exact cause of the accident is not yet known.
Shortly after the stampede, President Yoon Seok-yeol presided over two back-to-back emergency meetings, instructing officials to quickly provide first aid and treat the wounded, according to the presidential office.
Yoon also ordered officials to deploy emergency medical officials to Itaewon and secure emergency beds.
After presiding over an emergency meeting on the stampede, Yoon instructed officials to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident.
