Daughter of Huawei’s Founder to Assume Presidency in April

The daughter of Huawei’s founder, CFO Meng Wanzhou, will take over the group’s rotating presidency for the first time starting April 1.

Insiders reported that a succession plan for their 78-year-old father Ren Zhengfei should be started.

Last year, the Biden administration banned approvals of new telecommunications equipment from China’s Huawei Technologies and ZTE, as they pose “an unacceptable risk” to American national security.

In a statement, FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel, noted: “These new rules are an important part of our ongoing actions to protect the American people from national security threats involving telecommunications.”

Furthermore, Canada announced it will ban two of China's biggest telecoms equipment makers from working on its 5G phone networks.

The restrictions against Huawei and ZTE were announced by the country's industry minister. Francois-Philippe Champagne stated that the move will improve Canada's mobile internet services and "protect the safety and security of Canadians".
