A report by the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation (Kan) revealed that an Israeli soldier died two weeks ago after contracting a fungal infection after sustaining wounds in the ongoing battles in the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli newspaper "Jerusalem Post" reported that the soldier was admitted to Assuta Hospital in Tel Aviv, after his evacuation from Gaza, with serious injuries in his limbs due to a fungal infection.
The newspaper added that in the hospital, the soldier was found to be suffering from a fungal infection, and he later died from his wounds and infections.
According to the newspaper, during the war waged by the Israeli occupation army against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, at least 10 soldiers were diagnosed with this dangerous fungal infection.
The newspaper quoted Israeli reports stating that the Israeli Society for Infectious Diseases will hold an urgent parley next week with epidemiologists from the Israeli army and the Ministry of Health, to study the recent cases of fungal infections recorded among the ranks of soldiers fighting in Gaza.
