Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades said on Wednesday that his country is determined to press ahead with energy plans and to make good use of discovered gas reserves as a source of regional economic cooperation, growth, and prosperity.
Addressing the 4th EU-Arab world summit in Athens, Anastasiades added that the Cypriot government has never ignored Turkish Cypriots’ interests, and the proposals have been put on the table during the Cyprus negotiations.
Concerning the Cyprus problem, Anastassiadis stressed that its solution" will transform the Republic of Cyprus into a bicommunal bizonal state that would guarantee human rights and opportunities for cooperation between the two communities without relying on other countries."
He also added that both Greece and Cyprus agreed that stability, peace and economic growth can only be achieved through collective action and alliances in the eastern Mediterranean region.
In this context, Greece and Cyprus have begun to establish bilateral and tripartite alliances with the countries of the region to emphasize a positive agenda in areas of common interest, according to Cypriot President.
Noteworthy, the EU-Arab world summit is an international forum of economic and political dialogue between the EU and the Arab World.
The summit was initially established in 2016, in cooperation with the Government of the Hellenic Republic. The Platform aims at identifying and promoting the two regions’ common interests
