Egypt has stationed two firefighting helicopters in Cyprus to bolster the nation's firefighting capabilities. This afternoon, Maria Panayiotou, the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment, welcomed the 17-member Egyptian helicopter crew at the ‘Andreas Papandreou’ Air Base in Timi, Paphos district.

In addition to the Egyptian helicopters, Cyprus has also been supported by two Jordanian firefighting helicopters and an 18-member crew since May. Minister Panayiotou emphasized that the presence of Jordanian helicopters underscores the effectiveness of the multi-faceted foreign policy led by the government of Nicos Christodoulides, highlighting Cyprus's strong relationships with neighboring countries.

The Egyptian helicopters will remain on standby, ready to combat fires once necessary checks, briefings, and crew training are completed.
