President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides said in statements to the Greek News Agency (ANA-MPA) on the fiftieth anniversary of the coup and the Turkish invasion of Cyprus that only a lasting and sustainable solution to the Cyprus problem will restore the basic freedoms and human rights for all without exception the legal residents of Cyprus" pointing out that "despite the difficulties and problems, challenges, disappointments, we do whatever possible to create the conditions for the resumption of talks and finding a solution that will end the occupation".
He added: " Half a century later, the responsibilities of those who perpetrated the invasion and maintain the occupation, but also of all those who allow the continuation of the division of Cyprus through violence, continue to be unfulfilled," President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides said.
President Christodoulides added that what is currently happening in Ukraine, where the international community is reacting properly, happened in European Cyprus fifty years ago, and its consequences continue to violate basic human rights. He also pointed out that these consequences and actions are a flagrant violation of international and European law, the Charter of the United Nations, the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus, and also an indisputable violation of the fundamental freedoms and human rights of all Cypriots, who are forced to live in their country deprived of basic human rights.
