Cyprus Labour Minister Pays Official Visit to Cairo

Cyprus Minister of Labour and Social Insurance, Marinos Mousiouttas, will pays an official visit to Cairo on April 20-22, at the invitation of the Minister of Labour of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Hassan Radad.

The Ministry said on Monday in a press release that during the visit, Mousiouttas will have a private meeting with his Egyptian counterpart, with whom he will discuss issues of common interest in the labour sector, with particular emphasis on strengthening bilateral cooperation, the exchange of know-how, as well as the promotion of fair and sustainable labor mobility.

It is also noted that the visit takes place in the framework of efforts to strengthen relations between the Republic of Cyprus and the Arab Republic of Egypt and the promotion of cooperation on labour and social insurance issues.

Marinos Moushouttas was appointed Minister of Labour and Social Insurance on December 8, 2025.

Marinos Moushouttas was born in 1964 in Kaimakli, Nicosia. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration with a specialization in Marketing from the State University of New York at Albany and a Master of Public Administration from the Mediterranean Institute of Management in Nicosia.

His career began in the public service, where he worked at the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance and the Presidency of the Republic, focusing on personnel and project management. Since 2006, he has served as Municipal Secretary of the Municipality of Nicosia, where he successfully managed, among others, significant funding programmes of the European Structural and Investment Funds.

He was elected as a member of the House of Representatives for the Nicosia constituency of the Democratic Party (DI.KO.) (June 2016-July 2020), independent (July 2020-October 2020), of the Cooperation of Democratic Alliances (October 2020-May 2021) and of the Democratic Alignment (DI.PA) since June 2021.

During his parliamentary terms, he served as Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Transport, Communications and Works, Deputy Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism, and Deputy Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Finance and Budget.

He also served as a member of the House Standing Committee on Internal Affairs, the House Standing Committee on Labour, Welfare and Social Insurance, the House Standing Committee on Institutions, Merit and the Commissioner for Administration (Ombudsman), and the Ad Hoc House Committee on the Revision and Modernisation of the Rules of Procedure of the House of Representatives. In addition, he was a member of the House delegations to the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy and the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

His political career began as chairman of the Local Committee of the Democratic Party (DI.KO) of Kaimakli, member of the District Committee of the Democratic Party of Nicosia, member of the Central Committee of the Democratic Party, of the Executive Office (2003-2009, 2014, 2015-2020) and as Secretary General of the Democratic Party (2014, September 2015-June 2018). Together with other politicians, he co-founded the political platform Cooperation of Democratic Alliances, and subsequently joined the Democratic Alignment (DI.PA) in May 2021.

He is married to Theodora Michael from Famagusta. They have one son and two daughters.
