Following the EU Foreign Affairs Council and the EU-Egypt Association Council sessions in Luxembourg, Cypriot Foreign Minister (FM) Constantinos Kombos announced on Monday that Cyprus endorses restrictive measures targeting extremist elements and violent settlers in the West Bank, according to "Cyprus Mail".
Kombos clarified that Cyprus firmly supports taking decisive action against individuals driving the escalation of violence in the occupied West Bank. He noted that this concern also covers political figures who provoke what he characterized as unacceptable conduct.
Additionally, Cypriot FM stated that the EU ministers' discussions covered the situations in Gaza and Lebanon, alongside EU-Israel relations.
He emphasized that humanitarian aid efforts in Gaza must be accelerated and mentioned that Cyprus is prepared to review any upcoming European Commission proposals concerning the EU's relationship with Israel.
Regarding Lebanon, Kombos expressed support for the EU's new assistance package, highlighting how critical it is to maintain the ceasefire and sustain European aid to the nation.
Concurrently, Kombos labeled Egypt as a strategic partner for the EU, describing the nation as a vital pillar of security within both the Mediterranean and Eastern Mediterranean zones, as well as a crucial partner in combating terrorism and irregular migration.
Welcoming the results of the EU-Egypt Association Council, he asserted that Brussels ought to establish a more ambitious partnership with Cairo by implementing a broader strategic accord and maximizing the efficiency of available funding.
