Cypriot president says ties with Egypt should be developed in all fields

NICOSIA, Sept 11 (SEE) - Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades asserted on Tuesday his country's keenness on developing its relations with Egypt in various fields, voicing deep appreciation for the Egyptian government and people.

In statements during his meeting with Egyptian Speaker Ali Abdel Aal, the Cypriot president voiced his strong appreciation for Egypt's support to Cyprus at the regional and international conventions, MENA news agency reported.

He also reiterated his country's backing of Cairo at all international fora, especially the European Union and the Parliamentary Assembly for the Union of the Mediterranean.

During the meeting, the Egyptian speaker conveyed the greetings of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to his Cypriot counterpart, praising the historic relations binding the two countries which share various common concerns.

The Egyptian lawmaker made a review of the various internal developments in Egypt since June 30 revolution and briefed the Cypriot president on the various legislations issued by the Egyptian parliament especially those pertaining to the economy and combating terrorism.

On the regional front, Abdel Aal renewed Egypt support for the right of Cyprus to exploit its natural wealth within its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and also supports a solution of the Cyprus problem within the context of UN resolutions.
