A curfew has come into force in the Syrian city of Latakia, starting on Tuesday and remaining in effect until 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, amid a heavy deployment of security forces following overnight unrest.
The Internal Security Command in Latakia said the curfew does not apply to emergency cases, medical staff, or ambulance and firefighting teams. Authorities stressed that these services will continue to operate normally during the restriction period.
Security officials urged residents to strictly comply with the curfew order and to cooperate fully with deployed units, warning that legal action will be taken against anyone who violates the decision.
The curfew was imposed after violent unrest erupted in several neighborhoods of Latakia late on Monday. The disturbances resulted in one fatality, 13 people injured, and extensive damage to public and private property, according to local reports.
By Tuesday morning, calm had returned to the affected neighborhoods, with security forces maintaining a visible presence across key areas of the city to prevent further escalation and restore public order.
Authorities said the temporary curfew is aimed at safeguarding civilians, containing tensions, and allowing security units to stabilize the situation. No further incidents were reported during the early hours of Tuesday as calm prevailed across Latakia.
Latakia, a major coastal city in Syria, has witnessed sporadic unrest in recent years amid broader security and economic challenges. Officials reiterated that the measure is precautionary and will be lifted once stability is fully ensured.
