Culture Min. Hands over Prizes of National Theater Festival's 13th Edition

Dr. Enas Abdel Dayem, Minister of Culture, handed over the prizes and certificates to the winners of the competitions of the 13th edition of the Egyptian National theater Festival entitled "The "Fathers" edition.

The closing ceremony was limited to the announcement and distribution of prizes on the Grand Theater in the Egyptian Opera House.

The ceremonies were attended by the artist Ismail Mukhtar, head of the artistic house of theater and the artist Youssef Ismail, director of the festival.

Abdel Dayem expressed her great happiness with the activities despite the challenges of Corona pandemic that the world is going through, saying that the festival has succeeded this year in creating a creative shrink in the world of Theater by presenting various seminars and multi-educative workshops.

These workshops have shown great examples of promising work to sparkle in the future in the theatrical field of Egypt.

The minister referred to the development of this year's edition, which was marked with the launching of a website to document the memories and all informations about the current edition as well as the last edition.

The minister praised the level of the participating works and the creativity of young people that brought about the features of the spirit of the Egyptian Theater and the greatness of the Egyptian personality to spread the enlightening message and to build the human beings.

In the same context , the minister confirmed the continuation of the efforts to encourage creative and distinguished artists by organizing more creative competition to support theater groups and their performances on the intellectual and artistic level.

Moreover, she agreed on the recommendations of the Festival Committee to allocate the next edition to "the Egyptian author" - to be only for the performances of creative playwrights.

The artist, Youssef Ismail, the head of the festival, said that this edition is one of the most important editions of the festival throughout its history due to the challenge of the Coronavirus around the world.

Ismail added that this edition has discovered a large number of talented and creative people, in the university and private theater troupes and in the Egyptian church troupe.

Furthermore, this session presented a large number of workshops that included makeup and writing in addition to launching the website to be an archive for the upcoming editions - the website recorded 250,000 visitors during the days of the festival.

On the other hand, Ismail thanked the Minister of Culture for her keenness to hold the festival despite all the difficulties.

He also hailed the ministry’s leaders and members of the Supreme Committee who contributed to the festival’s success, as well as all the festival committees and the staff of the artistic house of the theater, wishing more success in the coming editions.

It is worthy of note that Dr. Osama Abu Talib announced the festival’s recommendations, and they are as follows:

- Paying attention to the presentation of the Egyptian author to present purely Egyptian works.

- Being strictly accurate in determining the time of the show so that it is not less than half an hour and not more than an hour and a half.

- Giving the opportunity to present the distinct works in the culture palaces and houses in the governorates, as well as universities and higher institutes.

- Supporting junior theater troupes and the independent club troupes.

- Establishing a special competition for Puppet Theater of all kinds, as well as pantomime and kinetic performance.

- Increasing the financial support for the participating troupes and for the prizes.

- Reviving the Egyptian playwright festival.

- Increasing the number of prizes, separating the professional competition.

- Increasing the number of prizes to five prizes instead of three in future editions.

The closing ceremony began with standing a minute for mourning the departure of the great scriptwriter Waheed Hamed. Then the Minister of Culture handed over the prizes to the winners; the prizes came as follows:

- The prize for the best theater performance ,first place, went to the theatrical show "The joys of the dome- Afrah Al Koba " - produced by the artistic house for theater .

- The best award for the best junior director - with a financial prize fifteen thousand pounds and a certificate of appreciation - went to director Hossam Saeed for the show "The Shelter" produced by Ain Shams University.

- The prize of the best (first role, men) with a financial prize of thirty thousand pounds, went to Abdel Moneim Riad for his role in the play "The Joys of the Dome."

The jury of the Egyptian National Theater Festival consisted of: Dr. Osama Abu Talib as chairman, with the membership : the musician Munir Al-Wasmi, the artist Gamal Abdel Nasser, Dr. Sobhi El-Sayed, the great writer Walid Youssef, the director Mohamed Abu Dawoud and the artist Atef Awad.
