Minister of Culture Dr. Enas Abdel Dayem launched Saturday the activities of the centenary celebrations of Dr. Tharwat Okasha who is one of the most important pioneers of Egyptian culture and the former culture minister at Cairo Opera House.

Abdel Dayem showed her appreciation to Okasha’s family and his unforgettable efforts in reformulating the Egyptian culture and establishing many cultural authorities.

She added that Okasha was one of the minarets of enlightenment in ancient Egyptian history, in addition to his humanity, leadership ability and depth of vision. He was responsible for restructuring society's consciousness after July 1952, building personalities who are capable of realizing the importance of thought and art in establishing our new Egypt.

The celebration’s activities, which will take place throughout 2021, include organizing a conference entitled "Tharwat Okasha's... the cavalier of Egyptian culture," and launching Tharwat Okasha Prize for the translation of audiovisual arts from and into the Arabic language at the upcoming Cairo International Book Fair.

Abdel Dayem also honored the icon’s family as she delivered a memorial shield to his daughter as a sign of gratitude to his immortal contributions in the history of Egyptian culture.
