Reports: Cuban Local Vaccine "Abdala" Effective by 92%

Cuban local vaccine "Abdala" has shown high efficiency against COVID-19 with 92.28 during the latest phase of clinical trials, media agencies reported on Tuesday.

Miguel Canel, the President of Cuba, hailed on his Twitter account the latest vaccine progress reached by the state.

He tweeted that despite the hard status the country passes through nowadays, the Cuban scientists managed to make an honorable achievement presented in several local COVID-19 vaccines, one of them known as Abdala.

The three-shot vaccine is capable of competing with other forms of vaccines in the global market such as AstraZeneca, Sputnik V, and Pfizer.

The first clinical trial of the vaccine contained 132 persons aged between 19 and 54 years old. Regarding the second phase, it included 660 volunteers, some of them volunteers aged 80.

While the final phase, 48,290 people participated in the clinical trials which asserted the high effect of the vaccine.

The name of the vaccine referred to "Abdala" play written by iconic Cuban playwright, and poet José Martí.
