Cuba faced another total blackout early Saturday, as the country's electrical grid collapsed for the second time in 24 hours, according to state media reports.

The national power operator announced the widespread outage at 6:15 a.m. local time, affecting the entire island.

This follows a previous collapse on Friday afternoon when one of Cuba’s largest power plants malfunctioned, cutting electricity for more than 10 million people across the country.

By Friday evening, electricity had been partially restored to some regions, giving residents hope of a full return to service. However, just hours later, the grid failed once again, leaving Cuba in complete darkness.

The national power company confirmed in a brief message that it was working to restore electricity but did not provide specific details about the cause of the second collapse or how long the restoration might take.

Cuba has been grappling with a fragile electrical grid for weeks, with blackouts lasting between 10 and 20 hours daily in some areas.

The government attributes the ongoing issues to deteriorating infrastructure, fuel shortages, and rising demand, which have strained the country's already vulnerable energy supply.
