The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) decided to send peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan, Armenian Prime Minister (PM) Nikol Pashinyan, who chairs the council in 2022, revealed on Thursday.
This came after Kazakh president Kassym-Jomart Tokayev asked for the help of the CSTO to overcome the terrorist threat targeting his country.
It is worth mentioning that Kazakh media reported that several protesters seized Almaty airport, noting that the employees left the airport when the protesters stormed it, according to Russia Today.
Kazakhstan, the central Asian country, is witnessing violent protests, prompting President Tokayev to declare a state of emergency throughout the country.
Tokayev warned there would be a “tough” response to unrest that continued to rock the country.
Tokayev said he had taken over as head of the powerful Security Council from the former all-powerful president Nursultan Nazarbayev.
In a speech to the people, Tokayev added that he will remain in the capital and will be with the people "whatever the circumstances," pledging to present a new package of proposals as soon as possible to overcome the current crisis.
He noted that during the recent confrontations, there were several victims among the security forces.
