Egypt's Ministry of Transport said the East Nile Monorail witnessed heavy passenger traffic on Friday as thousands of football fans traveled to the Green River Fan Zone to support the Egyptian national team during its FIFA World Cup encounter with Australia.

According to the ministry, the Investor and R2 stations recorded a significant surge in ridership from the early hours of the day, with supporters choosing the monorail as their preferred mode of transport to reach the fan celebration area. Officials said train services operated on schedule while passenger facilities remained fully available throughout the day.

The ministry added that operating teams were deployed at full capacity to ensure smooth passenger movement and maintain efficient services amid the increased demand. The measures were aimed at facilitating safe and convenient access to the venue before and after the match.

Images released by the ministry showed festive scenes at both stations, where supporters carrying Egyptian flags gathered in large numbers and chanted in support of the national team. The atmosphere reflected widespread public enthusiasm as fans came together to back Egypt in its World Cup campaign.

Officials reiterated that the East Nile Monorail continues to demonstrate its ability to accommodate high passenger volumes while providing a modern, reliable and safe public transport service. The ministry said the system plays an increasingly important role in supporting major national events and advancing Egypt's broader strategy to expand sustainable urban transportation across the capital.
